Bible Study: Troy’s Story

Small group study theme: Trauma

Hello! We are delighted to join you for another small group as we focus on trauma and the impact that can have on a young person.

Together we’ll read from Psalm 23, open some discussion around this topic, and be uplifted by the remarkable journey of Troy's story.

Let's get started!

Bible Passage:

Psalm 23 The Good Shepherd
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD FOREVER.

Question 1:
Usually when we read Psalm 23 there is a particular verse that stands out to us, and that our souls need to rest in. Which verse stands out to you as you read that passage now?

Question 2:
Can you think of any examples in your own life where you’ve experienced something traumatic? What did that feel like? How were your emotions? How did this impact your ability to cope with other areas in your life?

Question 3:
In our experience, when a child or young person displays consistent ‘bad behaviour’ it is a sign of an inability to cope with something underneath the surface. Can you identify some situations, events or experiences that a young person might find difficult to cope with?
