Bible Study: Aimee’s Story

Small group study theme: Anxiety

Hello! We are delighted to join you for your small group.

For this small group session we will be exploring God's heart for children struggling with worry and anxiety. Together we’ll read some comforting scripture, reflect on some challenging questions, and watch a heart-warming example of how one girl overcame extreme anxiety thanks to her local church.

Let's get started!

Bible Passage:

Isaiah 41 v 10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”

Psalm 94 v 18-19
When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
    your consolation brought me joy.

Question 1:
Why does Jesus think that children are so valuable?

1 in 10 children say they feel unable to cope with the school day (Association for Young People's Health, Key Data on Adolescence, 2013)
Two thirds of children say they worry all the time (BBC)

Reflect on these heartbreaking stats as you discuss the questions together.

Question 2:
When Jesus said ‘Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them', what do you think he meant?

Let’s remind ourselves of what it says in Matthew 19. '13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. 14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.'
