TLG Early Intervention
From Inverness to Newquay and Belfast to Cardiff, the TLG Early Intervention programme is bringing hope and a future to children and their families by providing one-to-one coaching support in school, to those who are struggling to cope with school life.
The effects of poverty, bereavement, family breakdown, abuse or being in the care system can have a huge impact on a child’s education. Some children may be struggling with a lack of confidence, facing bullying or have no positive role models. They may just be in desperate need of an adult to talk to.

COVID-19 Emergency Response
When COVID-19 hit, TLG responded quickly so that our coaches could keep supporting children who were feeling more vulnerable than ever. New formats and resources were quickly developed, enabling 862 remote coaching sessions to take place by the end of summer 2020.
Story from a TLG Early Intervention Coach
I am working with a boy who was referred to me because of behaviour difficulties in school. I have found it tricky to progress things for him because there is so much bravado – bragging about being excluded.
Last week I spoke to him via WhatsApp video call. He was a different boy in his own home. he seemed very genuine and there was no showing-off. I asked about the incident & he told me about it. He said he didn’t make a good decision and now regrets it. For the first time he admitted he was stuck with maths.
I felt this call was a breakthrough and I am hoping these remote sessions can help change his attitude!
