Imagine Mary’s joy when the wise men brought generous gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus on that very first Christmas.
Just as the wise men faithfully gave beautiful gifts to baby Jesus, we're inviting you to give too. Thanks to your generous gifts, children won't face a Christmas marred by worry. This Christmas, we must support thousands of children in the UK who desperately need gifts of hope.
As you know, the past year has been filled with immense challenges for families, including a reduction in income, the surge in energy prices and cost of living, and a broad decline in emotional and mental wellbeing. Devastatingly, this means that many children like Martin Jr. find themselves in crisis.
There are 4.6 million children living in poverty today, children who are facing Christmas with empty tummies instead of joy. But there is one gift you can give today which will change lives.
Martin Jr.’s Story
Life was very difficult last winter for Martin Jr. (aged 4) and his big sisters Chardenay (15) and Faith (13). “My husband Martin was furloughed last year,” says his mum, Michelle. “We really struggled. Trying to sign off our Universal Credit claim was a nightmare because we didn’t know when he would be paid.”
On top on their financial anxieties, dad Martin has been very ill. “We felt isolated. Arguments were happening. It was all too much.” Thankfully, Martin Jr.’s family got support through TLG Box of Hope from their local church, New Addington Baptist Church.
Michelle says emotionally, “Box of Hope had a positive impact on all our mental health. Mentally, it stopped me stressing so much. I went through a stage where I couldn’t sleep from worry. I sleep so much better now, mainly due to the church’s support. Box of Hope has done so much for my family."
Unfortunately, this winter is also set to be filled with challenges for the family. “This year my husband’s having surgery so he’s off work. We don’t know what money will be coming in, it’s going to be a struggle. Due to the Universal Credit uplift ending, we will receive about £88 less each month. We have to be stricter with the food we’re able to buy."
We must urgently raise £48,000 this Christmas to enable TLG to reach over 10,000 children with practical wellbeing support during these challenging winter months.
We need generous and like-minded supporters like you to make this happen.
Donate today and together we will provide for children and families in crisis this Christmas.
