EDUCATION CENTRES

We want every young person to have the opportunity to be educated regardless of their circumstance.

Our Education Centres provide intensive support for small groups of young people who have either been excluded or are at risk of being excluded from school.
This is a place where young people can continue in their education while also tackling the issues that cause their difficulties in school, whether it is issues at home, bereavement or bullying.

For many of TLG's young people, there are issues beyond their control which have
prevented them from succeeding in education. Research in our centres suggests that in a class of nine:

  • 6 out of 9 are experiencing difficulties at home
  • 3 out 9 are in the care system
  • 3 out of 9 come from a one parent family
  • 5 out of 9 said they have taken drugs by the time of reaching TLG

96% of young people who attend a TLG Education Centre will go back into mainstream school, further training or onto employment.

HOW IT WORKS

TLG seeks to understand the needs of each individual young person and offer them the appropriate support.

3 STAFF MEMBERS
trained by TLG to deliver lessons, whilst providing emotional support and mentoring to the young people.

9 STUDENTS
aged 11-16 who are no longer in full-time mainstream education, supported in a relaxed classroom environment.

12 WEEK TAILORED
PROGRAMME
giving each young person a chance to develop accredited key skills and address ways to change their behaviour

TLG also provides a range of activities and services beyond the school day, continuing our support for the young person and their family.

THE FACTS

- 44,000 school leavers are unable to read or write.

- Last year 5,740 permanent exclusions and 370,000 fixed term exclusions were recorded in the UK.

- 2/3 of the prision population have been excluded from school

EARLY INTERVENTION AND EDUCATION CENTRES

Building upon our past experience and success, our vision is to bring the opportunity of TLG to children and young people in every part of the UK.

We are opening up to three new Education Centres and many more Early Intervention Centres each year. Each centre is delivered in partnership with a local church partner to reflect the community in which they are based and ensure that they bring the best possible support to children, young people and their families. Education Centre - North Birmingham
TLG North Birmingham is a vibrant and nurturing centre, where young people
can learn in a safe environment. The centre is located on the Erdington/Kingstanding
border and caters for up to 18 students per week, facilitated by both paid
members of staff and volunteers. TLG North Birmingham prides itself on its strong
pastoral support and tailors its approach to meet the sometimes complex needs of
our young people.

The centre is in partnership with Reading Community Church. The excellent relationships
between staff and students underpin students' outstanding spiritual, moral, social and

Education Centre - Nottingham
TLG Nottingham is delivered in partnership with Trent Vineyard and located on the
Lenton Lane site in the City of Nottingham. Our most exciting course on offer is
Life Leadership, which seeks to develop self-awareness and management through learning
leadership skills, using VAK learning styles and therapeutic input.
